I was born in the United States, grew up in Korea, spent part of my childhood in Belgium, and returned to the U.S. in 2011. Moving between different countries taught me how to observe closely, adapt quickly, and enjoy my own company. Sometime after moving back to America, that solitude gradually turned into loneliness. I found myself missing the rhythm of Seoul—the glowing apartment windows at night, neon signs, and the city's pace. 

 

As I began translating small moments from everyday life into clay, my home slowly filled with objects that became quiet companions. They are pieces I live with, use, rearrange, and return to throughout the day. In many ways, they helped me rediscover the joy of being by myself. 

 

Wanting to hold on to those memories, I began making Cho Luminaries inspired by the nightscape of Seoul. Later, after reading Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino, those buildings gradually grew into an imagined city. As my work expanded, I developed my own construction methods, combining my interest in architecture, Lego, and pattern making to build forms from slabs and extrusions rather than throwing them. 

 

Today, I continue to make objects shaped by architecture, everyday rituals, the colors like, and the quiet relationships we build with the objects, places, and people we live alongside.
